New ways to visualize and analyse property data in commercial real estateMay 8th, 2014 by Matt Sheehan
Paper maps remain at the core of what many commercial real estate GIS departments produce. In this fast paced sales environment often these maps are needed yesterday. But this maybe about to change. The popularity of mobile devices: smartphones and tablets, and advances in mobile GIS technology could mean the dominance of paper maps in commercial real estate is ending. Interactive maps which allow brokers and agents to view current real estate data while in and out of the office are becoming increasingly popular. These apps not only provide data visualization, but focused searches and analyses. The combination of cloud based GIS and mobile technology provides a new level of insight not possible with paper maps. Now office based staff using products such as ArcMap and Esri’s Business Analyst (BOA) can share their maps and output across the organization. This brings once separate systems together; integrated and complementary. The demo below shows an interactive property map running on an iPad, which includes location analytics tools, using data generated in BOA:
Agents and brokers can now visualize and analyse property related data anywhere, and on any device. They can also collect data about available properties attaching images and notes, with automatic uploads to their organization. In the highly competitive commercial real estate market, this potentially gives organizations an important edge.
