Announcing the Launch of the Location Innovation Academy
March 27th, 2023 by The Open Geospatial Consortium Blog
New Location Innovation Academy empowers users to improve the accessibility, interoperability, and integration of their geospatial data and services, for free.
The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is pleased to announce the launch of the Location Innovation Academy – a free online training program based on the knowledge and ideas generated by the European GeoE3 project. A webinar launching the academy is scheduled for April 5; additional webinars will follow.
The academy offers a comprehensive set of modules that support modern and cross-border management, integration, processing, and sharing of geospatial data. Courses are available for beginners through to experienced technical experts who want to deepen their skills in, for example, the OGC API family of Standards. The current content of the modules has been produced by an international team of experts from across Europe.
The Location Innovation Academy is currently targeted to national mapping agencies, meteorological institutions, and other organizations producing or using geospatial data from different countries. However, in practice anyone can join the academy and start studying. You can start your studies by signing up to the Location Innovation Academy for free.
The Location Innovation Academy developed by the European GeoE3 project serves as the experimentation platform for a future OGC Academy. OGC is involved in GeoE3 as a project partner and will now stepwise enhance the academy together with the Location Innovation Hub.
OGC encourages everyone to explore the academy and provide feedback that allows us to enhance usability, content, and look and feel of the academy. Other projects or organizations are welcomed and encouraged to produce new learning modules as part of the Location Innovation Academy in the future. Feedback can be provided directly on the Location Innovation Academy website.
About GeoE3
GeoE3 is a project co-financed by the Connecting Europe Facility of the European Union that has provided the vital connection between existing and emerging National, Regional, and Cross-Border digital services. The action provides dynamic integration of high-value data sets and services (e.g. meteorological or statistical data) with geospatial features from existing national geospatial data platforms (e.g. building data or road network data). This simplifies meaningful analysis and visualization in a national and cross-border context. By enabling Open Public Data Digital Service Infrastructure, GeoE3 develops fundamental services to better serve the European citizen through the enhanced availability, interoperability, and integration of services.

About the Location Innovation Hub
The Location Innovation Hub is a center of excellence in location information coordinated by the Finnish Geospatial Research Institute. LIH services are produced in conjunction with a partner network.
The Hub’s activities are aimed at making efficient use of data spaces, for example on developing digital twins. The goal is to create a functional, permanent location innovation ecosystem for seeking funding, testing services, and developing new innovations in Europe.
