OGC Compliance Certification Available for GeoRSS v1.0

OGC compliance provides confidence that a product will seamlessly integrate with other compliant solutions regardless of the vendor that created them.
The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is excited to announce that the Executable Test Suite (ETS) for version 1.0 of the OGC GeoRSS Encoding Standard has been approved by the OGC Membership.
1 July 2022: The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is excited to announce that the Executable Test Suite (ETS) for version 1.0 of the OGC GeoRSS Encoding Standard has been approved by the OGC Membership.
The OGC GeoRSS Encoding Standard is an OGC Community Standard that has been implemented across several Information Technology domains. Products that implement OGC GeoRSS 1.0 and pass the tests in the ETS can now be certified as OGC Compliant.
Implementers are invited to validate their products using the new test suite, which is available on the OGC validator tool. Testing involves submitting an OGC GeoRSS 1.0 document produced by the product being assessed. These tests typically take only 5-10 minutes to complete. Once a product has passed the tests, the implementer can submit an application to OGC for use of the OGC Compliant trademark on their product.
OGC GeoRSS is designed as a lightweight, community-driven way to extend existing syndication feeds with simple geographic information. The GeoRSS standard provides for encoding location in an interoperable manner so that applications can request, aggregate, share, and map geographically tagged feeds.
There are currently two encodings of GeoRSS: Simple and GML
- Simple GeoRSS is meant as a very lightweight format that developers and users can quickly and easily add to their existing feeds with little effort. Simple GeoRSS supports basic geometries (point, line, box, polygon) and covers the typical use-cases when encoding locations.
- GeoRSS Profile of GML 3.1.1 is a formal OGC Geography Markup Language (GML) Profile, and supports a greater range of features, notably a variety of coordinate reference systems.
Some of the products that have already implemented this standard and that have been certified as OGC Compliant include Esri Geoportal Server 2.6.5, pycsw 2.6.0, and CubeWerx Suite 9.2. To implement the standard in your product, please refer to the OGC GeoRSS 1.0 Encoding Standard document.
The OGC Compliance Program is a certification process that ensures organizations’ solutions are compliant with OGC Standards. It is a universal credential that allows agencies, industry, and academia to better integrate their solutions. OGC compliance provides confidence that a product will seamlessly integrate with other compliant solutions regardless of the vendor that created them.
