OGC Compliance Certification Available for v1.1 of the OGC GeoTIFF Encoding StandardJune 9th, 2021 by The Open Geospatial Consortium Blog
Implementers of GeoTIFF v1.1 are invited to validate their products using the new test suite. The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is excited to announce that the Executable Test Suite (ETS) for version 1.1 of the OGC GeoTIFF Standard has been approved by the OGC Membership. Products that implement the OGC GeoTIFF 1.1 Standard and pass the tests in the ETS can now be certified as OGC Compliant. Implementers are invited to validate their products using the new test suite, which is available on the OGC validator tool. Testing involves submitting an OGC GeoTIFF 1.1 file produced by the product being assessed. These tests typically take only 5-10 minutes to complete. Once a product has passed the test, the implementer can submit an application to OGC for use of the OGC Compliant trademark on their product. New OGC Working Group aims to remove a major bottleneck to advanced Earth Observation science applications by defining a standard to document, store, and share Machine Learning sample data The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) seeks public comment on the formation of the new Sample Markup Language for Artificial Intelligence Machine Learning (SampleML-AI/ML) Standards Working Group (SWG), which will focus on developing the Sample Markup Language for AI/ML candidate standard for consideration by OGC membership for approval as an OGC Standard. Comments are due by May 5, 2021. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is expected to play a crucial role in many domains and will revolutionize existing technologies. During the last decade, Machine Learning (ML) techniques, especially Deep Learning, have improved significantly due to an abundance of data and advancements in high-performance computing. ML reorients and transforms geographic information systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS). ML-based applications are now being deployed across diverse markets to provide new solutions and increase human efficiency. Increasingly, the science community is also using these techniques to better harness the ever-increasing volume of Earth Observation (EO) data for geospatial analysis in various domains – such as smart cities, environmental management, and disaster management. |
OGC and CRN partner to establish a Unique Geospatial Real Property Identifier
OGC and CRN will work together to develop a unique geospatial real property identifier that has applications in housing finance and beyond.

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is excited to announce that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the non-profit Collateral Risk Network (CRN). Under the MoU, OGC and CRN will work together to develop a unique geospatial real property identifier (PUID) that has applications in housing finance and beyond.
OGC Chief Standards Officer, Scott Simmons, commented: “OGC is encouraged by the vision CRN has for real property identifiers that take advantage of modern IT practices for better integration with users at all levels: from housing finance participants to consumers. The work being undertaken by CRN and OGC will ensure that location information associated with property adheres to the best industry practices for accuracy and information sharing.”
Joan Trice, the founder and President of the CRN states: “Democratization of real property data is mandatory if we are going to endeavor to modernize housing finance. I knew we found the right partner to guide us through this process when I was introduced to the FAIR principles that OGC adheres to – Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable. That says it all.”
