TerraGo releases GeoPDF suite version 6.7.3

July 8th, 2015 by George Demmy

I’m pleased to announce the release of TerraGo Toolbar, TerraGo Composer, and TerraGo Publisher for ArcGIS version 6.7.3. It should be of interest for all users of TerraGo GeoPDF products.

Adobe recently released a significant upgrade of Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader called “DC”. DC stands for Document Cloud and the new products are deeply integrated into Adobe Cloud services, and represents fantastic new capabilities for Adobe customers. One thing I’ve noticed about Reader DC is that it opens and displays maps noticeably quicker than Reader 11, so you might want to check that out. TerraGo Composer and Toolbar are compatible with Acrobat DC and Reader DC as of version 6.7.3. The DC user interface has been radically altered and the TerraGo tools can be harder to find, but they’re there! The drop down menu is still in there as always, and you can get to iconified toolbars under Tools.

Unfortunately, sometimes software has bugs, and in our never-ending quest to make better software, sometimes we add a bug where there was none. Well, we discovered a particularly nasty bug that we added at some point, but have fixed with 6.7.3. A while ago, we revamped the method by which we add PDF object data feature attributes in GeoPDF documents made with Publisher, and, in so doing, introduced an inconsistency that did not allow those maps with other PDF documents using Acrobat or with Composer’s Map Assembler feature which can mosaic or stack GeoPDF documents. We fixed that and strongly recommend that all Publisher users who are on Esri ArcGIS 10.2 or later to upgrade to Publisher 6.7.3. And while we’re certainly committed to supporting PDF object data for feature attributes as well as we can, we also recommend checking out GeoPackage feature attributes as an alternative. Toolbar’s Identify tool is much more useful and capable than Reader’s object data user interface, GeoPackage feature attributes can support millions of features where PDF object data can really support only a few thousand due to limitations in Adobe Reader, and GeoPackage feature attributes can be pulled out and used in other applications, geospatial and otherwise.
