Google Maps presents a new app for the iPhone

December 13th, 2012 by Susan Smith

David Pogue reviews the new Google Maps app for the iPhone for The New York Times today. Readers of GISCafe Voice might remember Apple dropped their long time relationship with Google in order to provide their own Apple Maps, which some customers have not found as good as Google Maps.

This new app will bring Google Maps back to the iPhone with features with aerial birdseye street views and the ability to pinpoint a location that you asked for rather than asking you to choose from options.

Personally, I have found Apple Maps to be very good in functionality in finding locations. The options it has of asking you to pick a location rather than pinpointing it for you are helpful in historic towns such as where I live, where there are multiple streets with the same name!
