iPhone 5 buzz — not just when on vibrate

The iPhone 5 is accompanied by a lot of buzz, and some of that is pretty exciting. Customers of past iPhone models will be pleased to know that the iPhone 5 is made of all glass and aluminum, making it the thinnest yet. It measures 7.6mm thick, 18 percent thinner than previous iterations. It features “Ultrafast Wireless,” thanks to GPRS, EDGE, EV-DO, HSPA, HSPA+, DC-HSDPA and LTE.

From a software perspective, iOS 6 brings with it a wealth of new features that will certainly make a major difference to not only the way the iPhone 5 feels, but also its predecessors the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S when they get the updated software. The new maps that Apple designed in concert with sat nav provider Tom Tom have beautiful 3D renderings and vector graphics, certain to be part of the new iPad too. These take the place of Google Maps which Apple was licensing before. Geospatial users will be interested in the turn-by-turn navigation, a feature that customers have been anxiously awaiting. This feature has been available in the Android and other smartphones for awhile. The interface is said to be intuitive in the iPhone 5.

All carriers of the iPhone 5 will have 4G LTE capability that makes this iPhone model the fastest ever produced.

The phone, in both black and white, will come in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB flavors.

16GB runs $199, the 32GB $299 and, drum roll, please, the 64GB at $399, all on a two-year contract.
