Very cool technology. There is a big future in mobile GIS applications like this, in 2D and 3D. Our company, Evari GIS Consulting, successfully used ESRI’s iPad application to support a streetlight infrastructure retrofit project for the City of San Diego. Check out the blog post here: http://evarigisconsulting.wordpress.com/2011/09/30/gis-and-the-san-diegostreet-light-conversion-project/
Work crews in the field were able to access the complete streetlight database on iPads with the ESRI app. Work done in the field on iPads was transferred to a public-facing website viewable in real-time. This type of technology encourages worker efficiency and enables project management to have access to current information in a way never before possible.
