By Don Weigel, General Manager of Government and Commercial, Nearmap Technological Innovations Technology continues to rapidly evolve, and 2025 will be no different. Three specific use cases that I think will see technological innovation this year are:
Many different industries are leveraging location intelligence and embedding those solutions within systems to allow for deeper insights and learnings, empowering industries to respond to their surroundings in a more meaningful way. One of those ways is when planning and designing future-ready cities. Location intelligence data can help users better visualize what a city should look like—ensuring special care is made to consider growth patterns, traffic flow and accuracy. Generative AI combined with location intelligence for city planning and real estate development will lead to more alternatives that drive better decisions and ultimately better environments for citizens and developers alike.
Market Trends In 2025, custom technology platforms that are tailored for an organization and how they work will become a necessary asset. Companies all want technological solutions that help them streamline their workflows by saving them time, and therefore money–but not all organizations have the resources and infrastructure in place to build such a platform from scratch. Luckily, there are ready-made solutions already built and available on the market that companies can assess to see if they will meet their needs fresh out of the box. Organizations that can accurately discern and digest the information they need a platform to provide them will be better suited to do business in the years to come—outpacing the competition. Artificial Intelligence Integration AI is no stranger to GIS and will continue to be a buzzword into 2025 and beyond. However, understanding the value of the AI derived insights and how that information can help companies make smarter decisions is where I believe the focus needs to be. Organizations are realizing the value that AI has on GIS, and the data it generates will be vital for companies to address challenges, like those that come with construction, underwriting, property assessment, reinsurance, corporate governance, sales and marketing, claims handling, customer service and more. Mapping and aerial companies will focus on making data layers easier to visualize inside of GIS tools. By creating, managing, analyzing, and mapping huge datasets and then relating them to the world around us, companies will glean valuable insights about spatial patterns and relationships. These companies will continue to realize the value of visualizing data and projections in a real-world context and will look to hire and retain people with a background in GIS, people who can import and analyze layers of data to support real world decisions. Frequent data capture and high-resolution AI will push asset monitoring and management of buildings, land, utilities, infrastructure, etc. to be timelier and more accurate. About Author:
