GISCafe Voice Industry Predictions for 2022 – Part 2

Two weeks ago our Industry Predictions took a look at NVIDIA’s foray into geospatial with artificial intelligence and their digital twin of the earth. This week builds on those themes, as Dr Aaron Morris, co-founder of Allvision and Shehzan Mohammed, Director of 3D Engineering and Ecosystems, Cesium peer into the crystal ball to find AI and Machine Learning (ML) making a significant impact on GIS of the future.

GeoSapient looks forward to the improvement of sustainability through environmental, social and governance (ESG) transparency and industry collaboration. And to weave it all together, according to John Kelly, president and co-founder of GeoSapient, digital twin technology with ESG “will help the operators place themselves at the center of a sustainable supply chain and trace specific products to their final use.” (more…)

It is not surprising that the same GIS industry concerns arise that we had in 2021, follow us into 2022. Technology is morphing to keep pace with the new challenges put forth in the world, and what has been in development for many years is being put to the test.

We have not arrested Covid, rather we are living in a time of more virulent disease, if not as potent as our first go round. What is sustainable? How can technology assist? How deeply are our industries affected by the ever-changing landscape of health, climate, geography and work?

CoreLogic’s New 2021 Hurricane Report Shows Climate Change Impact

Recent years have seen increase in hurricanes and subsequent flood damage to property throughout the U.S. due to climate change. CoreLogic® a leading global property information, analytics and data-enabled solutions provider, this week released its 2021 Hurricane Report, providing analysis of single- and multifamily residences along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts and revealing nearly 8 million homes with more than $1.9 trillion in combined reconstruction cost value (RCV) are at risk of storm surge. This year’s report also examines hurricane wind and reveals more than 31 million homes with nearly $8.5 trillion in combined RCV have moderate or extreme risk exposure to hurricane winds.

These industry spokespeople cover where they see the industry going – and how to apply geographic knowledge to economics, politics, data sharing, visualization, city and country planning using sensors, Digital Twins, machine learning and artificial intelligence and much more. With GIS and geospatial, the matter of being able to provide accuracy and validity in data is paramount. GISCafe Geospatial Technology Industry Wrap-Up 2020

According to Research and Markets’ report, “Geospatial Analytics Market – Global Forecast to 2025”  the Geospatial Analytics Market Size is Projected to Grow from USD 52.6 Billion in 2020 to USD 96.3 Billion by 2025, at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 12.9% During the Forecast Period.

The Role of AI/ML in Intelligence and National Security

An interview with the Hon. Susan Gordon, Former Principal Deputy Director of National Security, by Balan Ayyar, CEO, percipient.ai was conducted at the USGIF GEOINT Community Forum Online in the past weeks. Ayyar is the Founder and CEO of percipient.ai, a Silicon Valley-based AI, machine learning and computer vision firm focused on intelligence and national security missions and the company is the title sponsor of the USGIF. Ayyar is also a retired U.S. Air Force General Officer. His last role was as the commanding general of the combined joint interagency task force 435 in Kabul, Afghanistan.
