AerialSphere: Navigating New Horizons in GIS Imagery

Friday, August 23rd, 2024

In the ever-evolving world of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), where accuracy and innovation reign supreme, AerialSphere has emerged as a trailblazer by redefining how imagery can be leveraged for smarter, more efficient data utilization. Initially recognized as a data provider specializing in panoramic imagery, AerialSphere has pivoted in a groundbreaking direction, now offering software solutions that enhance the usability of non-traditional aerial imagery in GIS applications.

During a recent interview, Suzi Schumaker, Chief Operating Officer, and Nick Markwardt, Chief Experience Officer at AerialSphere, discussed the company’s strategic evolution. “We started with 360-degree aerial imagery, but as we engaged more deeply with GIS professionals, it became evident that the industry needed solutions that could handle non-traditional sensors,” Schumaker explained. “Our pivot was driven by the desire to help users integrate diverse data sources, from cell phone captures to drone footage, into GIS platforms.”

AerialSphere’s software solutions have not only made it easier to incorporate this unconventional data into GIS but have also significantly flattened the learning curve for new users. Markwardt elaborated, “We’ve designed our software to empower everyone, from field operators to GIS analysts, to use and share GIS imagery seamlessly. By skipping several traditional steps, we make the process faster and more accessible.”

Revolutionizing Satellite Imagery: A Deep Dive into ICEYE’s Innovations

Friday, June 28th, 2024

In a recent interview with Sagar Dubey, Product Manager at ICEYE, I had the opportunity to delve into the remarkable advancements and contributions of ICEYE in the field of satellite imagery. ICEYE, known for operating the world’s largest commercial Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) constellation, continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in remote sensing and data acquisition.

The Power of SAR Constellation

ICEYE’s impressive SAR constellation is at the core of their innovative solutions. With a substantial number of satellites, ICEYE ensures unparalleled imaging frequency and data reliability. This extensive network of satellites allows for continuous monitoring and data collection, unaffected by weather conditions or time of day. Dubey emphasized the significance of this capability, stating, “Having the world’s largest constellation allows for the kind of imaging frequency that would be difficult to achieve with a smaller constellation size.”

The extensive constellation size not only enhances global coverage but also significantly improves revisit times. This means that ICEYE can provide more timely and reliable data, which is crucial for various applications ranging from disaster response to strategic site monitoring.

Trimble Cityworks Expands GIS-Centric Enterprise Asset Management for Public

Thursday, August 25th, 2022

Geospatial data  is one of the most critical elements for infrastructure improvement projects and asset management. The GIS provides context for where infrastructure is placed, its attributes, topography, maintenance history, and much more.  These attributes  track an asset’s  performance and catalog its proximity to other assets. Trimble Cityworks adds to this context by providing historical activity of when and how the infrastructure was placed, what type of work has been performed against the infrastructure, and the ability to identify the encompassing business risk should that infrastructure fail. With its platform architecture, Cityworks is able to consume various sources of data which inform organizations and assist with smart and efficient planning as stewards within their communities.

Cityworks was acquired by Trimble in 2019. It is built as a GIS-centric, platform-based software for asset management and permitting across the asset lifecycle with added capabilities for project management, contract management, and activity-based solutions. Cityworks, alongside e-Builder, a Trimble Solution that integrates on the platform, provides comprehensive asset management from the permitting phase through building and inspection into operations and maintenance.

Recently within Trimble, a new sector was created that is specifically focused on owners of infrastructure and the public sector. The Owner &  Public Sector includes Cityworks and e-Builder along with Trimble Utilities and AgileAssets, which specializes in pavement management. These solutions are positioned as part of the construction sector with a focus on the public sector to and are focused on completing and fulfilling the different stages of the design, build, and operate process to provide a comprehensive GIS-centric solution for the public sector.  (more…)

The Leica AP20 AutoPole Addresses Customer Challenges with Total Stations

Monday, April 11th, 2022

Sanjay Gangal, CEO and president of AECCafe recently conducted an interview with Hans-Martin Zogg, Business Director of Total Stations at Leica Geosystems, which is part of Hexagon. Zogg spoke about the new Leica AP20 AutoPole which is product solution designed to increase the productivity of Leica Total Station users, and boost speed, accuracy and safety on the jobsite.

Sanjay: Tell us about the Leica AP20 AutoPole.

Han-Martin: The Leica AP20 AutoPole is an absolutely unique solution, which we have just announced. The AP20 is an enhancement to the productivity of our Total Station users, and is easy to use. When we develop product solutions at Leica Geosystems, we always want to address actual customer challenges. And with the AP20, we actually address three main customer challenges, which occur when customers are using Total Stations in the Total Station workflow. The first challenge is, when you measure the Total Stations, actually you need to hold the prism pole always vertical. So this slows up the measurement process.
