NVIDIA is Building a Digital Twin of the Earth

CEO Jensen Huang presented the keynote at the recent GTC21 NVIDIA Conference, November 8-11, sharing with the audience the importance of accelerated computing and much more. The announcements were so prolific and many of interest to the GIS/geospatial industry, thus I will share those that would be of most interest to our audience. One of the most profound announcements came at the end of the talk, wherein Huang announced that they are building a digital twin of the earth.

Esri User Conference 2021 Virtual

GISCafe Voice Industry Predictions for 2021 – Part 2

This week, our Geospatial Industry Predictions includes Linda Loubert, Interim Chairperson and Graduate Coordinator, Economics Department, Morgan State University; Seb Lessware, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of 1Spatial; and George Mastakas,  Vice President of Enterprise Solutions & Corporate Partnerships at Cityworks. These industry spokespeople cover where they see the industry going – and how to apply geographic knowledge to economics, politics, data sharing, visualization, city and country planning using sensors, Digital Twins, machine learning and artificial intelligence and much more. With GIS and geospatial, the matter of being able to provide accuracy and validity in data is paramount. The technology is already there; yet finding the ways to use the technology in even more promising ways is the way of the future.

Web App TopoGrafi Captures Buried Asset Data for Utility and Infrastructure Sectors

MGISS, a Liverpool, UK geospatial specialist, released a new version of its web app TopoGrafi that allows for the display of 3D data in real world models. With enhanced 3D data processing capabilities, TopoGrafi is an end to end platform for capturing buried asset data and processing it for visually revealing and interactive Augmented Reality visualizations.  Specifically aimed at the utility and infrastructure sectors, TopoGrafi is already helping organizations in water and highways sectors enhance asset location data, improve on-site safety and reduce construction and maintenance costs.

Pointfuse Space Creator Toolkit Facilitates Laser Scanning for Indoor Mapping

Bentley Webinar Focuses on Digital Twins

Bentley Systems hosted its Spring Update Conference Call this week about the progress of the company, with a focus on Digital Twin technology. In addition were two product announcements and the acquisition of Keynetix, a UK-headquartered provider of cloud-based software for capturing, visualizing, modeling, and sharing of geotechnical data.

With OpenSite Designer, users can create intelligent 3D models for civil site projects complete with site information, terrain data, parking lots, building pads, driveways, sidewalk, parcel layout and related site features.

Utilities and Government Go “Digital” at Bentley Year in Infrastructure 2017
