Managing Director of Tomtom Business Solutions, Thomas Schmidt, Netherlands, answered some questions regarding the new TomTom App Center.
GISCafe Voice: What apps are available for integration with the WEBFLEET platform and will they be added to over time? Thomas Schmidt: We are looking to expand our eco-system and look forward to growing the number of applications over time. Currently we have over 50 partner applications listed. They are divided into two rough categories — Office solutions and In-vehicle and mobile solutions A nice example in the US is Service PRO Field Service Software, a field service software predominantly suitable for service technicians. GISCafe Voice:Who are the primary potential customers of this platform and App Center? On the enduser side it is any business with vehicles and a mobile workforce. Potential customers of fleet management are represented in a wide range of verticals (from transport fleets to service fleets) HVAC and Towing are well represented in TomTom’s customer base. GISCafe Voice: What type of price point will be arranged for the App Center? TomTom does not sell the Apps. These are Partner Applications that are sold by partners. The pre-condition for the integration is that customer is also subscribed to TomTom WEBFLEET, using our fleet management solutions GISCafe Voice: Can you say more about the integration with in-vehicle navigation systems and mobile devices? This is a new opportunity that we recently announced http://business.tomtom.com/en_gb/press/releases/2013-03-26 TomTom Business Solutions allows third-party developers to create new applications for use in and around the vehicle. This is enabled by granting access to the Bluetooth channel on TomTom’s in-vehicle LINK device. By integrating a wide range of mobile hardware devices TomTom Business Solutions expands the functionalities of its connected car technology. New applications will allow businesses to enrich data from hardware, such as tire pressure sensors and temperature control units, with comprehensive information from their vehicle fleet. TomTom will expand the range of such available solutions by inviting developers to join its partner network.
