TerraGo and Carahsoft announce geospatial collaboration software

George Demming, founding member of TerraGo Technology and CTO of TerraGo, talked in their recent webinar about the release of their Terrago v.6.0.4 geospatial collaboration software, including TerraGo Publisher, TerraGo Composer and TerraGo Toolbar.

TerraGo Publisher provides precise layer control and hyperlinking to documents, photos and files from within GeoPDF maps and imagery.

The latest release includes features that improve the user experience, and introduces the new field data collection capabilities and provides enhanced support for Esri ArcGIS v.10.1 and v.10.2.

“In this release you can use maps to communicate with one another,” said Demming. “The one thing we want to do is use the map and have anybody use the map.”

With TerraGo, you can mark and send coordinates to Google. In making it possible for the map to communicate to other people, Adobe Reader can be used. A GeoPDF can accept comments marked up with Reader. Any geospatial context in inferred. On the TerraGo toolbar, you can find ways to add forms and attachments, as well as Adobe markup and TerraGo GeoMar

You can share this information with someone who has no TerraGo or Esri software. Google Earth users using KML files can export GeoMarks as KML.

You can also export shapefiles. Shape files are messy; as for every feature class geometry you have three files. “We have abstracted it all out, in XML and put it into a TerraGo bundle,” said Demming. “We have the ability to normalize data so everyone can understand it.”

TerraGo is now using ArcMap with TerraGo Publisher software, which is a collection of capabilities that allow you to leverage GeoPDFs to make it easy to use resources that you might not find available otherwise.

With TerraGo Publisher, you can use a blank map template to bring in GeoPDF as a backdrop. You can dig into the PDF and display the content you want.  With different GeoPDFs you can initialize ArcGIS to share information. A lot of information is scale dependent that you can preserve in a GeoPDF. You can also leave out different layers if you want to, resulting in a smaller performing file.

“If you want to create a PDF from Publisher you can,” said Demming. You can’t add a new layer to the GeoPDF, but depending upon the size and numbers of features you can add it as GeoMarks. You can add layers in ArcGIS and Publisher to create a new product, if you could get that into PDF content so you’ve converted those layers using ArcScene.”
