Pictometry International Corp., inventor of measurable, aerial oblique imagery and analytics tools, launched Pictometry Integration for Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013 and 2012 products at Autodesk University the last week of November. Now users’ high resolution geo-referenced aerial imagery can be accessed from directly within the AutoCAD Civil 3D workspace, enabling users to visualize and take measurements of real-world field environments, helping reduce the need for field visits. AutoCAD Civil 3D use has grown phenomenally over the past two-three years, and continues to climb, according to experts in the field. It will also certainly benefit Pictometry to gain access to Autodesk’s millions of users.
One of our most popular posts has been the announcement of the integration of Pictometry with AutoCAD Map 3D in 2011. Pictometry Integration for AutoCAD Map 3D 2012 allows users to plan and design assets without leaving the Map 3D environment.
While Autodesk does not talk about GIS much these days, embedded in their Autodesk Infrastructure Design Suite 2013 is a Utilities Workflow that offers intelligent model based software for meeting the complex needs of the SmartGrid, with GIS products built in. The emphasis appears to be on helping transform planning, design and management processes by capturing conditions at the start of the design process, useful for both designers and GIS professionals.
Europe adopted the INSPIRE Directive in May, 2007 that established an infrastructure for spatial information in Europe to support Community environmental policies and policies or activities which may have an impact on the environment. INSPIRE is based on the infrastructures for spatial information established and operated by the 27 Member States of the European Union. In response to this directive, Autodesk announced a new technology preview on Autodesk Labs called Project Inspire, which allows AutoCAD Map 3D users to find, bind, and publish INSPIRE compliant metadata with their drawings. Please check it out on Autodesk Labs.
