HP’s focus is on looking into the future trends and workflows for customers. Approach as far as design is performance, reliability and intentional design.
Staying true to its goal, HP has totally redesigned its desktop workstation line, with performance, reliability and what they call intentional design. “We are dedicated to getting the workflows of the future to deliver simulations as soon as possible,” says Garcia. The versatility of the products allow the customer to customize to their workflow needs.
Today’s family of workstations require features such as simulations, rendering, visual effects and video editing.
HP Z8, Z6 and Z4 Workstations
Simulations Engineers import data, prepare models, set parameters, and use core counts to process complex algorithms to improve product safety, quality and time-to-market.
Rendering After design and engineering is perfected, high resolution 3D models undergo processor and graphics-intensive rendering in applications from professional providers like Autodesk.
VFX artists use powerful applications like Autodesk Flame to create effects for audiences worldwide and that takes a serious power budget found only in workstations.
Video editing As video editing moves from 4K to 6k to 8k, each increment in pixel rate actually squares, creating massive data sets that require powerful graphics and large amounts of memory to playback in real time. (more…)
For several years, colleges, universities and some geospatial vendors have been offering online classes in various capacities. As companies offer fewer training courses within their facilities, and professionals have less time to travel to classes, we have seen the rise of these courses offered by universities and even software companies. What do these classes contribute to the whole educational fabric of GIS?
In a webinar this month, HP executives talked about the exciting new approach and commercial solutions for virtual reality (VR). Together with NVIDIA, they have teamed up with Autodesk Fusion, LaunchForth, Technicolor, Unreal Engine and HTC VIVE to launch HP Mars Home Planet, a global project using virtual reality to simulate what a human population of one million could look like on Mars. HP has also unveiled what appears to be the first professional wearable VR PC– the new HP Z VR Backpack. Crafted to bring the full potential of VR to-life, it is designed to be a secure and manageable wearable VR PC.
We look forward to the Esri UC Plenary session each year, as it always profers an important vision, but also new insights, thoughts and surprising technologies.
Peter Bonne, OrbitGT Geospatial Technologies, CEO, spoke with GISCafe CEO Sanjay Gangal at SPAR3D, about Orbit GT’s new SaaS platform www.3dmapping.cloud Bonne shared more about the product line with GISCafe Voice after the conference.
“Sharing your data with anyone in the world just by a single click, that’s what we’ve been promising and what we are delivering,” says Bonne. “Owners of a 3D mapping dataset, such as Mobile Mapping coverage, can now share with a single person or with many users within an organization in one quick action. This simple concept will open up vast business opportunities for every data owner.”
Still a major challenge for people in many firms is sharing access to complex datasets such as Mobile Mapping data containing multiple imagery and LiDAR point clouds amongst co-workers. This capability has been available from day one in www.3dmapping.cloud. Now you can make the same data accessible for anyone outside your organization as well as those within it. Whatever users could do on the desktop they can now do on the cloud. Transportation, telecommunications, and some government agencies are eager to use this technology, so that they can utilize it within many departments within one organization. (more…)
CloudCities announced an update to their cloud platform for building insights that adds procedural terrains and advanced search features. CloudCities for AEC professionals and their clients highly simplifies the process of creating 3D plans and combining them with data. The new version makes it possible to immerse the models in beautiful terrains that load quickly and are generated procedurally. The new CloudCities is now available at cloudcities.io.

As I wrote last year, 80 percent of all business data contains a location component, yet most organizations are not using it or don’t know how. Boundless’ open, cloud-based and highly scalable platform, allows developers to deploy an entire scalable GIS infrastructure with just one line of code, and analysts can visualize all of their geospatial data in real time without any licensing fees.
This development solution addresses the increasing demand for an alternative to proprietary geospatial solutions (Esri and Hexagon, for example). Boundless offers greater functionality than Esri’s ArcGIS at 10 percent of the cost. (more…)
Chris Sheldrick, CEO and Co-Founder of what3words, spoke with GISCafe Voice recently about the multi-award winning addressing system’s recent adoption as an addressing standard for La Poste, the Côte d’Ivoire’s national postal system. Côte d’Ivoire is the first African nation – and second country in the world (Mongolia is the first) – to adopt 3 word addresses to improve its national infrastructure.
